Windows Slimmer is part of Auslogics BoostSpeed. We designed the tool to remove unnecessary applications and system components from your PC to improve the efficiency of the Windows OS. As the name suggests, a slimmer operating system runs more efficiently than one that’s bloated with unneeded Windows applications, files, and other components.
All users who have installed Auslogics BoostSpeed can access the tool although you will need the Pro version to activate some features. Windows Slimmer has options that allow you to clean up your Windows system by uninstalling unneeded apps and Windows components. The tool lets you remove Windows files (like system restore points and temporary Windows Update files) and protects your privacy by preventing data leakage.
Windows Slimmer is especially useful if you want to reduce high CPU and RAM usage on your computer. By removing items that are no longer useful to the Windows system, your computer can run optimally by allocating its resources to the currently active processes.
To access Windows Slimmer, you must install Auslogics BoostSpeed first. Once installed, launch the program and go to the All Tools tab. Look for the Windows Slimmer option under System Tools and select it. This opens a new tab with the One-Time Maintenance section selected by default. Under this section, you’ll find options to clean up your computer from obsolete Windows files and components for a more compact and efficient Windows system.
We recommend selecting one section at a time and then clicking the Start Scan button at the bottom of the page. This ensures that you take full advantage of what each section has to offer. After the scanning process is complete, select the Start Cleanup button to remove the selected files.
Once you're done with all the options under the One-Time Maintenance section, move to the Regular Maintenance section, which is available in the BoostSpeed 13 Pro version. Simply check all the boxes and click Start Scan.
Well, how do you improve Windows performance? To keep your Windows system running efficiently and optimally, run Windows Slimmer regularly. This tool helps you remove unneeded large files and create more space for other files. As you may know, your HDD space grows thinner every time you run Windows Update, download files, transfer files to your computer, install apps, and create system restore points (or when Windows creates them automatically). If the issue is left unattended, you may run out of hard disk space or Windows may become sluggish.
Windows Slimmer lets you safely remove large files that no longer serve any purpose in your Windows system.
The One-Time Maintenance section lets you scan and delete outdated WinSxS libraries, Windows demo content, system restore points, and disabled components. These are some of the large files that you can remove from your system to free up more space on your HDD.
Select each section one by one and click Start Scan. The process might take longer in some sections and shorter in other sections depending on the size of the files being scanned. After the scanning process is complete, the tool shows you the results, including the size of the space that you’re likely to save. You can then proceed to remove the files by clicking the Start Cleanup button. Both the scanning and cleanup processes take from a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the size of files being scanned and deleted.
Note that when removing system restore points, all but the last three will be cleared. This ensures that you can restore your system to a previous state in case things go wrong.
To delete old OS files, run Auslogics BoostSpeed and open the Windows Slimmer tool under System Tools. In the next screen, you’ll see the old Windows version. Select it and then click Start Scan. Wait for the scanning process to finish and then you’ll see the size of the Windows files that you're going to delete. To proceed, simply select Start Cleanup.
The Regular Maintenance function gives you even more options to remove the obsolete Windows footprint from your computer by reducing the clutter of all the installed applications.
The different categories include Memory Dumps to delete memory dump files, CD/DVD Burning Cache Folder, to remove copies of files created when preparing to write to CD/DVD, Recycle Bin, to empty the Recycle Bin, Temporary Folders, to remove temporary files, and Application Logs to delete logs created by the applications installed on your computer.
In the Regular Maintenance section, you can scan each option individually or opt to scan all the options simultaneously by checking all the boxes and selecting Start Scan.
As you may have noticed, most of these files are the remnants of Windows applications, components, and updates. Removing them not only creates more space, but also helps with keeping Windows stable and secure.
