How Win Protector Works

The Win Protector feature is available in both Auslogics BoostSpeed Free and BoostSpeed Pro. The Windows OS handles dozens of processes and services that are crucial to its normal functioning. You may notice that certain features like Cortana may inadvertently affect the security of your data, or that some apps may keep bugging you with ads. Sometimes you may just want to customize the Windows interface. Besides, ransomware protection for Windows is too important to ignore. All this is why we created the Win Protector to make managing the above easier for you.

To access the tool in BoostSpeed , click the All Tools tab and look for Win Protector under Security Tools. Once you locate and select the tool, a new tab opens with the Privacy section selected by default. Under this section, the tool provides tweaks to enhance system security and protect sensitive and personal data. Additionally, you’ll find options to make the Windows user interface more convenient to use and customize it to your liking (under APPEARANCE); and more options to optimize system components to improve your system’s efficiency (under SYSTEM TWEAKS).

Here’s what each section includes:

PRIVACY

Under PRIVACY, you will find options to tweak your system to prevent data leaks and reduce unwanted background traffic. As a result, you will improve your system’s security and protect personal data.

Block Unwanted Ads

Ads can be annoying when you are using certain applications or just browsing the web. Most websites detect your search patterns and serve you ads depending on your browsing activity. Under the PRIVACY tab, the Ad Control feature blocks unwanted ads in Windows so that you can use your applications or browse the internet in peace. This option is available in BoostSpeed Free.

Disable Cortana

Many Windows users might not know this, but Cortana, the built-in search assistant, collects and stores personal information to improve its functionality. If you are not comfortable allowing your personal data to be transferred to Windows servers, disable Cortana by simply clicking the Apply link. This option is available in the free BoostSpeed version.

Reduce Windows Update Traffic

Updating multiple computers connected to a network can use up a lot of bandwidth. So, if you have several computers connected to a network and want to reduce the update traffic, enable the Blocker option. This function blocks Windows from transferring Windows updates between computers on a network, reducing network traffic. This option is available in the free BoostSpeed version.

Block Location Tracking in Windows

Certain apps need to access your location to function properly. While some of these applications may request permission to track your location, others may do so without your authorization. To prevent apps from tracking your location, enable Geo Tools. This option is available in BoostSpeed Free.

APPEARANCE

Change how the Windows interface looks to make it convenient and easy to use by applying the options under Appearance.

Enable Secret Dark Theme in Windows

Windows has a hidden dark theme for Metro applications (touch-friendly apps for devices like Surface tablets and Windows phones). If you like the Metro app style, you can enable it in Windows. The only catch is that the feature is hidden. Win Protector makes it easy for you to turn on the secret Metro X Theme. This option is only available in the Auslogics BoostSpeed Pro version.

Change Logon Screen Background in Windows

Did you know that you could change the background image of the logon screen in Windows? The Authorization Wallpaper feature lets you easily customize the logon screen background to one that works best for you. This option is only available in BoostSpeed Pro.

Disable Windows Lock Screen

The Windows lock screen is designed for touchscreen PCs where you unlock your device by swiping on the screen with your finger. If you don’t have a touchscreen Windows device or simply don’t want the feature, you can disable it by selecting the Apply link under Lock Screen. This option is available in Auslogics BoostSpeed Pro.

Optimize Aero Peek Window

Aero Peek, or the Show Desktop feature, is hidden in Windows, and you’ll need to move the cursor to the very bottom right corner of your screen to access it. To get the optimal preview window size for Aero Peek, click on the Apply link under Aero Peek View.

SYSTEM TWEAKS

Windows Protector in BoostSpeed provides tweaks to free up disk space, remove unneeded files and ultimately improve your system’s efficiency.

Clean Out Retail Demo Content

Retail Demo Content is considered PC junk too. When you purchase a new computer, it usually comes with some files and apps that show you ads and demonstrate PC capabilities. These files are collectively known as Retail Demo Content, and they may fill up your disk space. To effectively delete them from your Windows system and clear space, we included the Retail Demo Cleaner feature under System Tweaks. Simply click the Apply link and the tool will do the rest.

Delete Unnecessary Links

The installation of software on your Windows computer creates links in the system. When you uninstall programs, the links may sometimes get left behind. Since they are no longer needed, you may want to remove them from your computer. Although you might not be aware of their existence, enabling the Action Center Cleaner option helps remove unneeded links from Action Center settings.

Set Mouse Cursor Speed

One of the telltale signs of a slow PC is when the mouse cursor starts to freeze. We designed Mouse Boost to help you optimize the speed of the mouse cursor. With enhanced system performance and optimized mouse speed, you can work faster on your computer.

Delete Old Windows OS Files

If you upgraded your OS from an earlier version and you don’t plan to restore your system to the previous Windows version, feel free to use the Backup Cleaner functionality to delete the files of the old Windows OS. Having files belonging to the old Windows versions lingering on your computer only fills up disk space. Use this option to free up disk space that you might need for other things.
